I don't know why you guys are turning it into a fear thing. That's irrelevant. We could also turn it into a shame thing or any other emotion.

I agree, the fear thing is irrelevant to this topic. However, as was already pointed out: you can't stop gay guys being attracted to you. Being more attractive to women will make you more attractive to gays simple as that.

Where fear cones in is if you actually believe that attraction will end up somehow making you f*ck a guy. That's just irrational and definitely a fear and, IMO, points to a suppressed sexuality.

That would be extremely irrational, but feeling uncomfortable when someone you don't find attractive is attracted to you is quite normal. I've felt something similar with women I find very unattractive. That's why I like the idea of BIATBW: it's nicely targeted.

"it's normal to feel uncomfortable", how can you agree with that. It's not because someone is unattractive that you have to feel uncomfortable. If you are afraid of ugliness the problem comes from you not the other person. If you are afraid of homosexuals the problem comes from you not the other person. If you are afraid/uncomfortable of shit the problem come from you not the shit. You can reprogram every reaction you have, you don't need to feel uncomfortable in any situation you are in, but well we are not perfect. Feeling uncomfortable is a lack of confidence or a fear response, or some other thing. If you go see a doctor/healer/hypnotist/etc and he is a uncomfortable with you because you are fat or ugly or anything the problem come from him, though you also have a problem, but feeling uncomfortable is not something normal. There are crazy thing in life, get used to it, get use to life.

With respect I disagree with him then. The fear that stops you walking off the edge of a cliff, or stepping into traffic or putting your hand in a fire are very healthy. Millions of years of evolution created fear to avoid danger, it stopped you fighting a sabre-toothed tiger or a much bigger human adversary. Or, if you had to fight, fear made you produce the adrenaline and other hormones to be able to fight effectively. Trouble is, it can feed on itself and become irrational, inappropriate, or excessive, and inappropriate fear can even be transmitted to you when very young by those around you.

He touched upon this perspective before somewhere, but he said that that fear of walking off the edge of a cliff is still not helpful. The main thing keeping you from walking off the edge of a cliff is your common sense and logic knowing that you will die from walking off the edge of a cliff. Fear of death or what will happen from walking off the edge of the cliff is different from actually desiring to and making the choice of walking off the cliff. You can still be 100% fearless of dying or walking off the cliff, but you will logically know and have the common sense and wisdom to realize that even though you don't fear dying and fear the fall off the cliff, it won't be a wise or safe decision to make.

Also, yes, evolution created fear to avoid danger, but we have evolved past those primitive brain mechanisms. We have more intelligence and consciousness and logic to make those decisions ourselves such as not fighting a tiger. Sometimes even, those primitive brain mechanisms, that evolved over so much time from the existence of humans, greatly hinder us. For example, the reward circuit in the brain that evolved in the past to pump dopamine into us when we do things that are beneficial, such as eating, or watch porn, or have sex. That exact reward circuitry is the root of the chemical and neurological brain changes that happen in addictions. We know it's not good to overeat and get fat, and we know its not good when our sex or porn habits become harmful, but we still do it.

It may take 1000 years before the general population realize what Shannon just explained in this post. Fear is not useful anymore if you are able to think for yourself and avoid danger by being smart. Fear is useful for animals because they can't think for themselves.

If a mad dog or crazy human attacked you in a completely unpredictable way, for example, the fear would produce hormones that could save your life. They would give you much greater strength and energy to fight or run away. Without fear you would be at a great disadvantage in that situation.

You are wrong actually, adrenaline is produced by the fight or flight response, which is triggered by fear. In fact, adrenaline has even been called the hormone of fear, although it can also be produced by anger. People who suffer from chronic stress are suffering from chronic fear and have abnormally high levels of adrenaline, which should only occur in short bursts. If it is present all the time it can do a lot of damage to the body.
