Float Tank and CSA - Sean - 03-02-2013

I will be going to a float tank, aka sensory deprivation tank, and one of the benefits is supposed to be relaxation and getting the mind into a theta-wave mode.

Would using the Theta track of Core States of Awareness prior to entering the tank help me achieve that relaxation more quickly, so I spend less time descending into that state?

Naturally, I know there are no guarantees, and I welcome input from Shannon as well as anyone else on the board.

It could, but I wouldn't do that. Training your brain to be in Theta all the time is a bad idea. Let the SDC do it's job.

Well, I tried it, and it didn't help. My mind was racing while in the chamber, except for a few moments of calm. I can't wait to go back again to see if I calm down faster and can stay in that mode more easily.

It was INCREDIBLY relaxing for my body, though.

From what I am told that happens a lot when people are used to regulating their thoughts with distractions from their body. When the body relaxes, they have nothing to govern the thoughts, and their minds go and go.

It seems to be something about the novelty of the experience, also. It appears to shift with experience. You can train yourself to relax your mind also.
