RE: Shannon's Journal Discussion - CatMan - 11-30-2016 (11-29-2016, 10:49 PM)Shannon Wrote:(11-29-2016, 10:30 PM)CatMan Wrote: Hi Shannon! Glad to hear man! Please keep us appraised on the progress. I'm sure it will be a good step forward in things. Recently, I've seen you reference 4.x branch in posts and what it will do etc. But I thought you said you were only going to do 3.x branch and then that's it for this program. Was that a joke, or a change in thinking about the program and how far you'll take it? That was exciting to hear, I got the impression for awhile now 3.x branch is make-or-break for it. I think Kingstons the most reliable. There's been many of those in my house and they've only broken because of physical damage. RE: Shannon's Journal Discussion - lokko - 11-30-2016 Ah I want the premature ejaculation sub in 6g or even 5.5g bad RE: Shannon's Journal Discussion - CatMan - 11-30-2016 I've used Kingston before and they've never failed me, and I'm literally using my Sandisk one right now that I've also had forever. Neither brand has failed me once. I'd recommend either of those and you should be golden. Neither brand has failed me once. I'd recommend either of those and you should be golden. I have had three dead SanDisks. Hopefully Kingston performs. I'm thinking about buying two 512 gig or terabyte USB disks and just backing up the whole computer to them. Just bought a Seagate 3TB the other day actually. They're fantastic. I have an external 5 TB and 4 TB for backups right now. My USB drive is currently 64 gigs. (All the 128 gigs died, of course.) RE: Shannon's Journal Discussion - JackOfHearts - 11-30-2016 I bought 3 Kingston usb drive, each 8GB about a year ago. After a week to a month they all died one after the other. I guess I was "unlucky". I'm always surprised by how much every brand fails even the most reliable and how the IT field is so unreliable. There is always some kind of unknown bug that seems impossible to happen from time to time or something that isn't supposed to fail but fails. Which remind me that nothing is 100% reliable. I saw some bugs that made me crazy when I was studying IT. I think it's a bit like poker, there is scientific rating to how much something is supposed to happen, some mathematics rules. But when it comes to reality those rules doesn't really works. By that I means how many times I have seen someone been "unlucky" and some that are almost always lucky. Those probability rules are so unreliable. RE: Shannon's Journal Discussion - Shannon - 11-30-2016 (11-30-2016, 01:01 AM)Alpha360 Wrote: I bought 3 Kingston usb drive, each 8GB about a year ago. But we can't be any more specific than that and follow the rules. RE: Shannon's Journal Discussion - JackOfHearts - 11-30-2016 Yeah I couldn't mentioned that, it would make perfect sense otherwise. RE: Shannon's Journal Discussion - Cozy - 11-30-2016 Well I think there's a variable we're missing here, what about the fact that you keep them on a key chain, it's probably exposed to different temperatures throughout the day (Florida weather to ac in a grocery store or what have you), and then it may be clashes with keys, I've always just kept them in my pocket or book bag, and they've never failed me. I have a sandisk that doesn't perform well when I'm playing music from it, but other than that it keeps files together and easy to access. Come to think of it though, every time I've had a USB 16 gb or over they've always broken in some way, maybe a coincidence. I think if you need something over 32gb might as well get a hard drive, all that information in one tiny place would make me nervous. Unless the scripts are so big they need gigs of space. There's no such thing as luck, but Karma is a law that encompasses absolutely everything here in our little reality simulation. Understanding it would be helpful to anyone, esepcially those trying to make serious life changes like I assume we all are. RE: Shannon's Journal Discussion - Shannon - 11-30-2016 (11-30-2016, 01:32 AM)Cozy Wrote: Well I think there's a variable we're missing here, what about the fact that you keep them on a key chain, it's probably exposed to different temperatures throughout the day (Florida weather to ac in a grocery store or what have you), and then it may be clashes with keys, I've always just kept them in my pocket or book bag, and they've never failed me. The USB keys are not just backing up the scripts. They're backing up all the files I need to rebuild my build environment if my computer dies, hard disk, house burns down, etc. They fit in 64 gigs. I like to have 2 USB keys with these files on me at all times. In case one fails. The one I have right now is shockproof and water resistant to 20 feet, IIRC. The theory that their treatment is why they fail, itself fails, because I have lost just as many keys to the "harsh treatment" of being kept in my desk drawer. |
