As I am doing things at home I may pop downstairs, so I pause it then when I come back up I press play again

yeah its fine, although u don't need to pause it, still u at least need to pause it like a thousand times or more at the same spot for it to have an influence, but for me i can have the ultrasonic on at max volume and be far from my room and it could still be effective, so perhaps just raise the volume instead of pausing it.
