Suggestion: *Private Threads* - Dubls - 08-17-2016

Ok I know I'm not the first to suggest this.

Private threads: users have the option to make their threads visible ONLY to forum members who are signed in OR request that admin adjusts thread permissions to enable the same result. Otherwise, the thread appears as blank or with a message indicating that you must be signed in.

Franky, I don't understand why this isn't a thing here on a forum where people disclose sensitive information in the interest of personal growth. Yes, members have been journaling all this time without private threads, but it would be considerate and encouraging and could mean the difference between writing something or writing nothing at all.

I have seen private threads on other forums using the MyBB platform, therefore it is definitely possible.

I encourage anybody who supports this idea to chime in with a like and/or a comment, as it seems that this needs to gain traction to be taken under serious consideration.

I think that as the forum is setup not only for r&d but as advertisement that it would detract from it's purpose, though this is an opinion and a guess.

In that case, each thread would have to be public, but we could make it so certain posts inside are private. Users would keep the majority of their progress updates as public posts and only a few as private to give members on the forum more details.

There'd probably have to be basic "must be public" posts like the first post in the thread.

Users here have anonymity so I don't see the need for private threads.

Also, we are able to send a private message - PM or email if we prefer discretion.

This is something I would like. It would be nice to share information to other members who have purchased one of the big guns.

RE: Suggestion: *Private Threads* - Steve_ - 10-13-2017

Thanks Tristain for pointing this out to me.

The proper way to do this would be to create a new forum section that is only visible to certain users. Or perhaps, a section that is visible to everyone but requires an invite. In effect, I would create a new user group called VIP, for example, and only VIP users can participate in the given section. The question is, what would this section be called? What sub-sections, if any, would this section have? I am very open to suggestions. If enough folks are interested then I'll make it happen.

For example... A section for AM6 journals, or a private section for DMSI journals, where only members who have purchased the program can participate.

RE: Suggestion: *Private Threads* - Tristian - 10-13-2017

Perhaps one thread per subliminal. Each user can contribute information that would otherwise be private + information around the sub. For example, BASE could have a user talking about the day he has had at work and then goes on to suggest some reading material.

RE: Suggestion: *Private Threads* - JackOfHearts - 10-13-2017

If it's possible I would prefer the option to make a post invisible to non registered user.

For example I'm writing in my Dmsi thread or AM6 or whatever thread. And at some point I want to make a post about my private life so I make that post invisible to non registered users but the other part of the thread is still public.
The post wouldn't appear like with the ignore list.

That way not everything is hidden and non registered users can still profit from a good journal.

Also the limit shouldn't be just about non registered users but having at least 10 post on the forum for example.

I wouldn't make the limit too high either because some would want to post garbage just to have access to the private part of the forum which I have seen happen in other forum.

If a single invisible post inside a normal thread is not possible then I would suggest to create an entire section of the forum invisible called private journals. I wouldn't restrict it to only AM6 or DMSI but what ever you want to talk about.

While I'm at it if we could talk about esoteric idea in that private section that would be great. Since it wouldn't be publicly available maybe it wouldn't cause a problem like it is currently the case as we can only talk about it in the specific chatter box thread.

Also if we could have a smilie with the little guy puking Victoire
Also the dead horse with a guy beating it is funny Thumbsup

PS:I also like the idea that only the guys who bought the program can participate in a private dedicated section. That would be great. As it would make the user more "reliable" (less likely to be a fake report). @Certified buyer

RE: Suggestion: *Private Threads* - Steve_ - 10-14-2017

Alpha360, I do not believe what you describe is possible. I have not seen a plugin to allow a user to hide specific posts. Likely it can be done, but it would be a custom job that I am not able to code. This is unfortunate as that is a very good idea you had.

I like the certified buyer theme going on here. I can see that applying to bigger programs like AM6, BASE, DMSI. This is something that would have to be done manually by staff, although I do not mind doing so. The user PM's for access then we look up if they have bought the program under that email. Again, something I would do if enough folks are interested.

Keep the ideas coming!

Puking and deadhorse huh... Yeah I can do that Smile
I'll be on the lookout. Post a link here if you're able to find some that you like.

RE: Suggestion: *Private Threads* - Benjamin - 10-15-2017

I like the access to purchasers idea. It prevents people who have pirated programs posting there and spending a ton of time on them.. some who have no intention of buying. It also prevents trolling by them as has been done in the past with no evidence of purchase.

BUT.. in saying that it may not be totally beneficial. As one way people see if they are interested is reading journals.. when I first come here I read as many AM jourbals as I could then brought it because of what I read. So if it was all members only it would take away from that.

After writing that I actually think I more support not having the private only to purchasers option.
