I have a VERY slow connection (20-35kbps/up) and another few programs to upload, plus the customs I am building. I am also planning to be driving for an 11 hour road trip down to Texas here shortly, possibly starting tomorrow. So bear with me here. Hopefully I'll be better able to get things accomplished when I get to my destination.

You are probably way past Big Bend at this point, if not, check it out-pretty cool.

I recommend not to camp out there though, with scorpions and rattlers that love to snuggle to warmth.

I am envious, it sound like a awesome trip.

Hey Shannon I was thinking about running through alpha again. I was wondering if I should wait or was the refreshing every year thing just a general guideline? I was also wondering if running through it now would be as rough as the first time or if it would be smoother.

RE: Shannon's Journal - About - 09-29-2011

So other than sheer willpower and motivation, what can you recommend for people who are night owls like myself to start getting to bed at a more reasonable time?

I'm on vacation from massage school, and I've been going to bed at like 3am and waking up at 1pm. Once we start again I won't have the luxury of staying up so late. Oddly enough, I sleep 10 hours even though I'm 22 (I probably don't need the 10hrs, I just like it). If I wanted to start going to sleep at like 11pm-midnight, what program would help me do that if there are any?

I had to bypass Big Bend, but I'll be heading through Texas again since dad wants me to stop by again. So maybe I'll see it then. Scorpions, I'll catch and mount. Rattlers, meh, just kick 'em aside. They're not getting into my tent. Smile

And yes, aside from the sore muscles, absurd hours, blisters, and the amazing work, patience and driving required to get these photographs... it really is an amazing trip. Now if only I didn't have to deal with absurd speed limits and clueless people walking into every fourth shot. lol

For most people, running through alpha every six months (six months through, six months off, once per year) is going to be very beneficial for three or four years. I highly recommend it, as I am absolutely amazed at how much good it has done for me personally.

Generally, it gets smoother every time, but you'll still notice it;s forcing changes that aren't always easy. After three or four years, it'll be others telling you about your rough spots more than you noticing them yourself.

My suggestions are as follows:

  1. Turn off the TV.
  2. Turn off the computer.
  3. Turn off the radio.
  4. Turn off the light.
  5. Go to sleep because you're just plain bored.

It may sound primitive, but after the first night, it works great. I am getting up at 7 am and going to bed by 9 now, doing that.

There's also the Go To Bed On Time sub, which is in the children's section, but works fine for adults. You just need to solidly set a bed time first. Got any suggestions for something better?

And as for how much sleep you need? I think the "8 hours is normal" stuff is full of it. Maybe in a world where we aren't constantly bombarded with information and trying to cram more-more-more into our days. I sleep 10 to 12 hours a night, and you bet your bippy, I need every bit of it. I can work 4 hours after getting up and use up all that mental energy if I am doing the right (wrong?) kind of work on these subs. It burns huge amounts of mental energy.

Not yet. I have my trip planned up to Texas. I am going to Oregon to visit my half sister, and I think she lives in one of the more prominent cities there. But there's nothing stopping me from wandering. Smile

If you wander near crater lake, you will be pretty close to my town. crater is a good place for pics.
